Day 1 Selfie!
Monday the 7th my first day at Four Corners Film Office. Given that it was my first day, it was more on the relaxed side since I did some admin work in the offices primarily. I wrote some thank you cards, updated the production guide on the site, and gathered as much contact info for national film businesses. But I was mainly getting into the groove of everything. The only real mishaps I had was a minor spelling error which I corrected and updating the production guide was kind of a challenge but an easy one since most of the people I was putting on the guide were already on there but it was nice to actually get some names on there as well. I also got my schedule for the week, which would put me in the field Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Meaning Friday would be another office day. Aside from the office work I did on Monday, I started on my LINK project! Which is going to be a promotional video promoting Four Corners Film Office! I got some shots to start off with and I'm really excited for the final turnout of it.
On Tuesday, I began by adding people to the 4CFO newsletter and updating the production guide once again and continued to obtain contact info from national film organizations. The real struggle was coming across some companies like Sony or Canon and not be able to find a direct phone number, address, state, or zip code I could work with. Since I didn't want to spend too much time trying to dig, I moved on to the next national business on the list. One thing I learned on Tuesday was "How to be a receptionist." It was brief, but I probably wouldn't need it unless the staff has a meeting where I have to be on receptionist duties. Throughout Monday and Tuesday, I was working with Stephani, my mentor!
Wednesday started early and it ended early. I went into Durango TV for the day and experienced a variety of things. At the start of the day, I got introduced to the crew there. I was mainly around Matt Crossett who to me seemed like one of the leading members, and this other great guy named Zach. I was with them the entirety of my time there. So my day moved onto watching the filming of a segment for Durango TV , and it was awesome!!!! I helped out with that just a tad by monitoring an audio meter on the primary camera that was filming the news anchor Ashley Dickson. That first segment of the day was a great way to start off and a nice mini task to do as well. Once that ended, I watched the editing process that Zach would undergo for the news segments. The program he was using was Adobe Premiere. He showed me what he did, some of the tricks he did and just some of his know how with the program. Which to me looked very different from the program I use to edit which has been Final Cut Pro X. Aside from that, I sort of got to know Zach a little, throughout the time I was observing him edit; we talked about our histories with making films. Near the end of my day, Matt showed me what he was working on, the exact name escapes me but it had interviews talking about the Silverton Skijoring. I watched Matt cut out certain parts he didn't want in the interview, which the parts he was editing out were primarily what I would call unusable. Then Matt asked me to give it a shot, and I personally had some fun with it. He was also using Adobe Premiere and at first it was uncharted terrain for me. But Matt showed me some of the basic commands to cut out specific parts and let me loose until I had to go. One thing I forgot to mention was earlier I the day, Matt had brought up that if I end up getting really comfortable with Adobe Premiere, I could possibly edit something for him!
On Thursday, I got to work with Rich Fletcher who's an awesome guy! The day started off at the offices for a bit until it was time for me to head over to Rich's place. (Stephani drove me and dropped me off) Once I got there, I got to meet him and open up a new "toy" of his called an OSMO! The best way to describe it is a one handed hand held steady cam. The camera itself was more on the lines of being within a sphere and I could use a joystick on the handheld part to point the camera in the direction I preferred it to be. So Rich let me loose so I could take some footage with the OSMO. I did this for a good twenty minutes I believe. I lost track of time since I was so fascinated by it! So the real first tasks were putting together the OSMO and filming with it. Once I finished filming, we took it up to his office room to edit in Final Cut Pro X. I wanted to edit it just a little, so I found a filter effect I really liked and placed it in all the clips I trimmed down to get the portions I really liked! Once that was done, I exported the file onto my flash drive and voila! The day then progressed to me helping out Rich film a "bike ride." Not literally in a weird sense, but we rigged the OSMO up to the hood of his Min Cooper and went to the Durango Sports and drove to Lemon Lake and back. While Rich was driving, I was monitoring OSMO through the iPad that was synched to it. Once we got back to his place, I watched him put in the file he wanted and then that was the end of the day! It was a great day, and I truly finished my day by getting more footage!
Friday was an office day, it was very relaxed but I got some work done overall. One task that up some time was shredding paper. It seems like it would sound boring but I actually had some fun with it! Overall the week was a very quick week for me and I'm excited for the coming weeks! The goal I have for next week is to edit and grab more footage for my project!
