Today was my last office day, to my knowledge. But I did some things here and there. the mission I had was to update the production guide by adding placing another listing into it. Given that being a simple task, I was finished rather quickly. I forgot to mention my actual day started off by going out to Farmington Hill with my mentor Stephani and got a few shots of Durango from Farmington Hill. That is when we made our way to the offices and I got my first mission of the day. Like I said, that process was quick. Plus I started at nine this morning! I hope that I have mentioned that office day tasks come at their leisure. So I can have an x amount of downtime which usually isn't much. I have usually done research on films and some pre planning for my LINK project. Oh on our way to Farmington Hill this morning, we had the conversation that Janae wants to happen between an intern and the mentor. It was brief but we got it out of the way. Has the internship dissuaded my from film? No. Well it's more or less dissuaded me from doing an office job, even though I can easily make the best from it. I know that I don't want an office job of any sort for film. But this internship has made me wanted to keep pursuing film. Especially when I worked with Rich and Matt. Now onto the next part which was really if I learned from the internship. Yeah I learned a lot when I got to work with the people I did. I learned some of the basics of Adobe Premiere with Matt at DurangoTV. I got to learn some neat stuff, especially with the OSMO and some neat things about Final Cut with Rich. In the offices, I got to learn how to use their photo copier, updating a production guide, working on a newsletter, and putting together a packet and stamping it through stamp machine.
So after that, I had some down time to think ahead on what I'll do with my project now. Especially with the footage I have in total. In total, I will guess that I have around twenty five minutes of footage to edit down into a video that will end up not being that long for the LINK exhibition I'll be in, especially that I'll only be given a few minutes to present some of my project and talk about my internship. Which I have no stress about whatsoever at this point. Which I am positive will remain the same throughout the course of me editing my project which I can't wait to see the end product! So after I did my planning, I was given a few tasks to work on at my leisure. Shred paper, edit my intern bio in the newsletter, and hole punch some files and place them in tabs in a binder. I started off by shredding paper since it's somehow fun to me. I endured shredding, and recycling the shredded paper for two trips. Well I wouldn't say I endured, it was more or less that I enjoyed it. After that, I went to my next mission which was putting the documents such as minutes and other groups of paper into their respective binder tabs. Such as the website, marketing, board docs, and minutes tabs. I obviously hole punched them before putting them in. After that mission was complete I went on to my final mission while everyone was out on a board meeting at the fairgrounds I believe. My final mission was to touch up my bio. Which I needed to add the who, what, and how. I did the how, I just needed to add more on the who and what segments. For the tweaks I did for my intern bio, I talked about my origins in film making which date back to when I was in seventh grade at Miller Middle School. Which is a very elaborate story of me showing my films to some of the classes I had in which some of those teacher took interest it seemed. So time went on and I got better at filming and editing. Then I got ahold of Final Cut Pro and everything just improved. Okay aside from that I tweaked my bio and finished all of my current missions. So I began doing research on films once again. Once my mentor got back from the meeting at the fairgrounds, it turned out there wasn't much for me to do at the offices so I went home to work on editing my LINK project until I got my hours for the day from working. However, tomorrow I'll be at DurangoTV tomorrow at 9 A.M and I'm sort of spotty on what's going on tomorrow. But I'll be there until around three or four tomorrow. But on Friday, I know I'll be editing all day!
Since I was been in Arizona from Sunday to an earlier part of today. It was really laid back. I spent the entirety of my time today taking footage around the place in which I was staying. (Which was at my grandparents' ranch) Once I got home earlier, I found out that I wasn't too pleased with the shots I took down in Arizona. It was mostly due to the camera quality being extremely weird and the footage didn't turn out the way I thought it would, and there was also a lot of sun glares, which really left me unhappy. Aside from that, I got onto Final Cut and did some brief editing. Brief can mean many things... When it's editing, brief can be awhile even though it doesn't feel like much. Let's just say that I did some brief editing! All in all, I've been meeting my six hour requirement to get my 90 hours!
Today was a laid back office day. But as always, the office days are nice in a weird way. I personally feel like some people would dread work in an office, but I have little to nothing to even complain about! I somehow just make the best of it and the office days somehow become really fun! But the first task I did today was put postal stickers on giant envelopes to individuals. I personally really like stickers so this was really fun. But I almost extremely goofed up at one point during this process. On one of the envelopes, I placed the sticker with the person's name, address, and area code on the top left corner where the Region 9 sticker went. So I saw that instantly, and immediately took it off carefully and put that sticker in the center where it belongs. The second thing I did was pick out a color for the minutes that were taken at a board meeting to be printed on. I picked blue and then my mentor showed me how to use a photo copier. "It was so difficult," oh my sarcasm was real. but no, it's actually really easy and we photo copied seventeen copies of the minutes which was followed up by me stapling them! I then copied several other documents and stapled them after redacting some confidential information in them. After that I got feedback on the work for the office's newsletter I worked on recently and made some changes such as deleting a space line here, and moving a section closer to the top, changing a name, and then placing a bio about me highlighting their intern. Me! After that I did some research on JJ Abrams who directed films such as Star Wars The Force Awakens, Super 8, and Star Trek. Eventually I was called to duty again! I started off by looking for the addresses of several specific places in Ouray! That was quick and easy since all I had to do was open up the excel sheet the places were on and I copied and pated them into Google and bam, I got the addresses! Then I tri folded a bunch of brochures, that was fun! Like I said, I can make the best out of things! Once we finished folded the brochures, we photo copied some more documents! But we had a slip up on one of the sets we were copying...we forgot to redact several things! So that required going in and redacting each piece of confidential information! I finished redacting several copies and Stephani took it upon herself to take over while I copied and printed the last documents! So it turns out all of that copying, printing and occasional redacting was all going in the giant envelopes that I put stickers on this morning. So throughout the day, the printed copes came and were placed on a table in an order which I would ultimately grab one of each and pile them up. One I created all seventeen packers, I slid them all into the big envelopes and sealed them. Then I put them through a stamping machine! That was the conclusion of work for today. Oh I don't want to forget that Janae-nae came by and visited the offices today near the end of my day. Week two Finale! / Reflection So this week was pretty great! Especially doing everything I did and working with the people I did! The people at the DIFF offices, their names slip my mind but they were great and it was fun to help them out! Working with Matt and Zach at Durango TV, again was a blast! Throughout the week, Stephani was the one who gave me tasks when I wasn't out working with the others and she took me places so I could get some footage for my LINK project! I think that this week skill wise, I learned some common sense things such as operating a photocopier, editing a newsletter, redacting info, asking questions, and shredding paper of course! I also feel like my people skills have gotten better in a sense. I'm still a little timid around some of the people I've been around but all in all I think that this internship is helping me speak up a little more! For my project, I recently got 228 seconds of footage and that's some epic progress! I also edited a little more of the footage I already have on Final Cut. But next week, my goal is to ultimately finish my LINK project by next Friday and to hopefully get some drone footage next Tuesday. Since I believe I will be working with him on Tuesday. I honestly look forward to the upcoming week, but I then again I'm not. I think I'm going to be a little bummed when this is over. Oh well, I don't want to loath, I'm just going to seize the moment for the remaining duration of LINK!
Today was an extremely productive day! It started with me waking up before the sun rose and I got ready just before the sky started lighting up. The reason I woke up so early was to do a time lapse of the sky lighting up from the sun! So I set up my iPad and set it on the time lapse setting and let it record until about 7:40 this morning. Then I got picked up by my mento to get shots for my LINK project! The first place I went to film was The Lion's Den up by FLC and did a panning shot of Durango along with some scenic shots near the Lion's Den! Next we went to the bridge that 32nd street goes through and got some footage there. Then we drove to the Red Cliffs out of tow. And I got a shot of them. The last shots I took were at Bakers Bridge and OH MY GOODNESS! When I got to Bakers, my breath was taken away since I'd never been there before! After i got the footage I wanted to take, I got two hundred and twenty eight seconds of footage as well, and I plan to get more soon! After filming, I went over to the Dirango Independent Film Festival's office to help them out since the film festival recently happened. I did some small tasks here and there, mostly around organization, but the task I was given that highlights the day was taking apart the hard drive of a compute that houses all the machinery and hard drive. It was pretty fascinating even though it wasn't specifically film related but i enjoyed it! During my time at the film festival's office, I got to watch a film called Native Evolution! WOW! That's all I can say, it blew my mind knowing the person it was about was showing off a new style of art to represent Native American culture! That very much outlines my day and I can't wait to continue working on my project!!
I also visited Animas\ once I got off and it felt so strange1 I saw and visited my friends like Baylee, Emery, and Sierra. I also saw my wonderful advisor Jessica! But I was dropped off since my sister was shadowing so I'd leave with her. But in the last two years, I remember during LINK when a junior would come back and it looked like it was a big deal to see someone who's off doing work in an area they love. Well I experienced that and wow. I'm not really sure how to explain it, but it just felt good to see my teachers, friends, and advisor.
Today was an office day, but it was laid back! Like all office days! I was supposed to be helping out the Durango Independent Film Festival today but that part of my plan for today fell through. Alternatively, I did some work on the brochures for the film offices. I did some work last Friday similar to what I did today with the brochure. The board members loved the shots I picked out but it was stated that the equipment in those shots were dated so they sent my mentor much more recent photos with equipment that isn't so dated/ Out of the photos I was given to try out, I picked two I really liked. I put those photos into separate versions of the brochure, and now they're going to be viewed by the board!
Some other work I did was work on the film office's newsletter, which consisted of me embedding a video into the newsletter. Which wasn't hard at all! I then worked on rewording a text box regarding the film office's Oscar Watch Party! For my project, I got about twenty one seconds of footage and once I get more which should be fairly soon and at my own leisure. I'll put them into Final Cut and edit them in! Tomorrow I'll be at Durango TV again and I'm beyond excited!!! So the entirety of today was editing the footage I have for my LINK project! So far, I am LOVING it! It actually turns out that I don't have enough footage. Well I personally don't think I have enough. But I'm going to change the background music to something that's around two to three minutes in length. Plus I'll need to get at least a around another minute and a half of footage, three minutes max to be safe! Once that's done I'll be on my way to edit some more!!!
